Iran’s top negotiator Ali Bagheri Kani about an hour ago had a meeting Mikhail Ulyanov and Wang Kuan, the top negotiators of Russia and China. He also has meetings with the heads of the European delegations in the negotiations.
Ulyanov had earlier in a Twitter message wrote about his meeting with the EU permanent ambassador at international organizations in Vienna and said that he met Stephan Clement, who plays a very important role in these negotiations along with his other colleagues at the EU.
Meanwhile, the EU Foreign Policy Chief Enrique Mora, before noon today (on Wednesday) had a meeting with the Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg in which they exchanged viewpoints in the latest status of the negotiations.
There are no details for the press on the contents of those talks. The Vienna negotiations are making progress with high sensitivity under such conditions that the meetings between delegations have increased, while the news reflected about their contents have decreased compared to the previous days, that might be a sign of new developments in the process of negotiations.
Last night for the 3rd consecutive night, the G4+1 delegations and the EU officials met the US special envoy for Iran. Most of these meetings take place in the afternoon local time and lasted till shortly before midnight. Tonight, too, such a meeting will take place.
Bagheri Kani in his last press conference said that if the other side has a serious will and is ready in practice for acting in accordance with its entire JCPOA commitments, an agreement will be reached in a very short while.
“Clearly, we believe any sanction is against the spirit of the JCPOA, and need to be terminated immediately, whether it is imposed during Obama, or during Trump’s tenure. All sanctions related to the JCPOA are included in this field, and they are those in Trump’s maximum pressure policy, as they were all related to the JCPOA,” he added.
